COLOURS by Maureen Sudlow

orange, silver, purple…
sounds like sunset
on a sweltered day
where smoke from the fires
swirl echoes of a strange darkness
when the sun sinks orange
on the horizon of the hills
and a sliver of silver
sends the weary firefighter home
before the twilight’s purple gloom
brings full circle to his day
