2 poems by Nancy May

relationships end

heavy clouds in the sky
just before lunch
waking up

puddles of rainwater
over the weekend
no phone calls

drizzle all day
getting over
our breakup

pockets of cold air
listening to your
friend’s advice

autumn’s death

autumn’s last day
a branch hangs
in the breeze

leaves swim in rainwater
in the shadow
a skating rink

clouds in the sky
a storm warning
on the forecast

snow warms a petal
the garden’s
next christening
