Talk Therapy Blues by Ivan Jenson

Once I start
speaking
I am afraid,
like a broken faucet
I won’t be able to filter
the untapped
tap water of
raw confession
which has been
building up
dammed behind
my clenched jaw
and I am sure
with my hands
I will signal
like the frantic,
soundless wave
language
of someone
with a flat tire
on the subconscious
inner-state highway
and, like Freud’s
first neurotic
patient
I will chew your ears
and abuse your
patience
and you will
flip into Flip Wilson
and say,”Here comes the judge!”
