A Face Without Smile by Jeffrey Graessley

her image
shifts through the stucco
walls sun bleached
yellow under the patio
dome-light backyard nights
drunk

I piss in the spot now
where we had that blanket
down and made love
with morning grass soaking
through

it’s easier to burn
the beauty out of memory
and watch her stucco
face shift, but it

doesn’t make tomorrow,
opening up to the next one,
or getting off the love-piss wet lawn
any easier.

  1. Jeffrey Graessley is a writer from La Puente, CA. His latest poems can be found in Gutter Eloquence, Chaffey Review, and Turbulence Magazine. His recent discovery of the BEAT generation has prompted loving and longing thoughts for that simple, drunken, far-gone time in American history.
