Killer Whales by Joseph Friedrichs

A dozen orcas are trapped
under the ice
in the Far North.

A lone break in the frozen surface
provides a hole from which to breathe.

God’s polar bear approaches the hole
to merely observe the strange situation.

A man
remembering he is armed
shoots the bear.

Up the moon.

Down the sun.
